Plus One- Part 5
by RogerGirl
I can't believe how much my life has changed in these past few months. With my real life on temporary hold, I have been spending more and more time as Rowena and less and less time as myself. I had never anticipated things to go this far, but Rowena is now an influential public figure. As a wealthy heiress who works a steady job and doesn't get into legal trouble, I have been receiving quite a bit of attention. I've been interviewed on talk shows, featured in magazines, and people have talked to me about starring in a reality series based on my life. For obvious reasons, I had to turn down the reality series with the excuse that I was busy preparing to take over the family's company.
My relationship with Mitch has been going well and we have arranged dates and vacations to make sure we are photographed as a couple. I've gotten used to kissing Mitch and Mitch doesn't seem bothered by the fact that I'm really a guy or that we're both straight. As an actor he's gotten used to playing roles and thinks of our relationship as just another role he is playing. He has admitted several times that he wishes I were really a woman, not only because he finds me attractive, but because we have grown pretty close in our time together. To be honest, this fake relationship has gone on longer than any real relationships I've ever had.
I haven't kept in touch with Duncan much lately, but from what I hear he's been busy as both Duncan and Candace. As Duncan he has been preparing for our eventual meeting, while as Candace he has been busy playing the role of a football player's girlfriend. With his cousin's wedding eight months away, it is almost time for me to end things with Mitch. While part of me is relieved to be getting closer to returning to my normal life, I'm also going to miss spending time with Mitch. Being his girlfriend comes with certain perks like front row seats at Lakers and Clippers game, the chance to travel around the world and stay in fancy hotels, and the opportunity to go to movie premieres and award shows.
One night in mid-July, I'm out with Mitch at a new club when he asks me to meet his agent. When his agent comes over, I am surprised to see that he is my sister's fiance. He doesn't seem to recognize me, since we have never officially met. What is surprising, however, is that he has a girl with him. At first I don't think much of it, but as the night goes on they spend most of the evening making out. At one point, the guys go to the bar to get us drinks and I decide to figure out what is going on.
"So how long have you two been together?" I ask casually.
"Almost six months," she replies happily, "He proposed to me last night."
"Congratulations," I say holding back my true feelings.
The guys return and I spend the rest of the night conflicted. How can I tell my sister that her fiance is cheating on her without revealing that I've been pretending to be a woman for the past six months? She knows that I could never get into a club like this as Owen. For now I have to continue playing the role of Rowena until I can speak to Mitch in private. I make my way into his lap and give him a long and passionate kiss. When I break the kiss, I whisper to him that we need to speak in private. With the impression that we are leaving to have sex, we make our way out of the club and into his car.
"What's going on?" he asks concerned.
"Your agent is my sister's fiance," I explain.
"Oh," he says surprised, "I didn't know. Did your sister recognize you?"
"No," I respond, "The woman with him tonight wasn't my sister."
"Oh that douche is cheating on your sister," he exclaims angrily, "We have to go back and confront him."
"No," I say stopping him before he can turn the car around, "If we do it will give away my secret."
"What are we going to do then?" he asks, "Does that woman know he's engaged to your sister?"
"No she seems to be just as much a victim as my sister is," I reply.
We continue discussing the matter as we make our way back to Rowena's apartment. We go inside and spot Duncan in the lobby. I decide to forgo the plan for the moment and invite him up to my apartment to explain the situation to him and ask for his help. All along the way he has been very helpful and I'm sure with his connections he can do something about this. As we get into the elevator I notice him checking me out and remember that this is the first time he has seen me as Rowena. After a lengthy discussion, we reach the conclusion that I will have to bring my sister in on this plan in order for it to work. Mitch and Duncan leave and I go to bed unable to sleep because of the phone call I will have to make the next day.
